Hello lovely ones and happy new moon in Sagittarius! This new moon takes place at 7 degrees of the Jupiter ruled sign of Sagittarius at 4.18am PST (adjust for your timezone) on Tuesday 29th November 2016.
Sagittarius is the sign of the teacher, the traveler and explorer.
This fiery sign is ruled by benefic Jupiter and as a result Sagittarius is considered by some to be the luckiest sign of the zodiac.
In the natural zodiac (which applies to all of us) this sign governs spirituality and religion, foreign places and people, publishing and higher education and legal maters including immigration.
Each of us will have Sagittarius ruling a different house of our natal charts (and therefore governing different life areas) but it is a good idea to keep the natural zodiac life areas in mind too.
You can use the free natal chart calculator on my site to check in which house 7 degrees of Sagittarius will fall as it is this house (and therefore life areas) that is highlighted by this new moon.
For each of us the Sagittarius ruled life areas of our natal chart are likely to be where we feel we are born 'blessed', or get a lucky break, or where we experience great spirituality and a desire for educating ourselves, by being student and/or teacher.
These areas of life may also be where we desire freedom which manifests as a wanderlust nature.
All sounds lovely so far, right? Except that since December 2014 stern cosmic life coach Saturn entered Sagittarius and will continue to do his cosmic life makeover in this sign until December 2017.
Saturn and Jupiter are like chalk and cheese, making Saturn in Sagittarius somewhat uncomfortable bedfellows.
Saturn represents constriction and boundaries. Reigning things in. Doing things by the book. Dotting your i's and crossing your t's and thinking about all the what if's, at times to the point of making yourself fearful (the shadow of Saturn is fear and depression).
Jupiter represents expansion, the kind of expansion which at times can lead to excess. Jupiter is optimism, hope, generosity and pure good luck. Jupiter jumps headfirst and thinks later. No dotting of the i's and crossing of the t's for Jupiter. Yet somehow post the event good fortune sweeps in to take care of those pesky little details.
Given that Jupiter is the ruler of Sagittarius and therefore the energies above apply to Sagittarius, one can easily see how Saturn in Sagittarius has not been the easiest of transits for many.
In those Sagittarius ruled areas of life where we may usually experience a sense of ease, optimism, organic luck and expansion and plain good luck, we may have felt a not so welcome shift since December 2014.
The arrival of a leash or reign, and the tight pull of that leash/reign may have resulted in us perhaps feeling a sense of fear, frustration and heavyness, due to a seeming inability to move forwards and gallop off into the golden sunset like the Sagittarian centaur.
It may sound a bit meh, but it isn't all bad.
Soulstrology says that the entire point of the zodiac is to provide us with a cosmic blueprint to help us to achieve balance, harmony and alignment between the different traits of the zodiac.
By doing so this allows us to embody all the positive traits from the zodiac and to transform the shadow into light, ultimately making us whole.
When we adopt this perspective we can see Saturn's presence in Sagittarius in a very different manner. We can see that being 'reigned in' is helping us to evolve spiritually and to manifest.
The themes I have referred to above are very similar to the main astrological theme of 2016 which started a year ago in November 2015 - namely the Saturn Neptune square (dreams versus reality, boundaries, contraction for expansion).
Whilst the Saturn Neptune square has faded somewhat since the final exact square in September 2016, it is being reactivated at this new moon.
This new moon squares (expect an intensity) the lunar nodes (fate/destiny) and is conjunct Juno (the asteroid of marriage, commitment). Meanwhile Sagittarius's ruler, Jupiter (currently in Libra) is making a sextile (friendly, harmonious aspect) to Saturn in Sagittarius.
Finally, at this new moon Venus (love, money) squares Uranus (sudden change, revolution).
No, this may not be a full moon but this is a FULL ON new moon...expect the unexpected and as well as whatever life areas highlighted in your chart you can also expect the above areas to come up for cosmic consideration.
As 2016 is slowly but surely drawing to a close this new moon is bringing together so many of the most powerful astrological themes this year and forcing us to review not only the progress of our plans, but our plans themselves!
For each of us this is a unique and no doubt deeply personal experience.
There is no one size fits all formula/solution.
But we must all look to the Sagittarius ruled life areas (apply both the natural zodiac and your unique natal chart) and ask ourselves some tough questions and answer them with brutal honesty.
What issues has Saturn brought up for us since December 2014? What lessons have we learned? And perhaps more pertinently, what lessons do we perhaps still need to learn? How can we pro-active so as to avoid learning through tough love and instead pre-empt these lessons?
How can we find the balance between our dreamy vision and reality? Which of our dreams/visions are perhaps not ultimately in our best interests which is why we may be thwarted in the manifestation of said dream/vision?
How can we mindfully navigate the path between where we are right now and where we want to be?
How can we rise to Saturn's challenge and be steadfast in the pursuit of our goals knowing that hard work, persistence, and at times contraction, ultimately leads to the expansion we desire and the manifestation of our dreams?
Saturn may test us but he also rewards hard work and when he leaves an area of our chart he often departs bestowing a gift! (mark December 2017 in your diaries!)
If we can temper our optimism with practicality, balance our dreams with reality and accept the lessons we need to learn (including if we need to reroute ourselves) then we can harness the energies of Jupiter to manifest the miracles of Sagittarius.
At this new moon I wish you all the courage to ask yourselves the tough questions and to answer them with brutal honesty (hey, did I mention I am a Sagittarian?!) and to perform the unique balancing act required for your life.
May you manifest the miracles you desire, for your highest good and the greater good of all concerned.
Happy new moon!
